Transit Talks - Impact of Homelessness on Transit Operations

Homelessness is a pervasive issue in communities across California and has only worsened in recent months due to economic impacts the COVID-19 pandemic. People experiencing homelessness often depend on public transit as a mode of transportation and sometimes as a shelter or refuge from the elements. To understand how transit agencies have responded to homelessness, the University of California Institute of Transportation Studies (UC ITS) conducted a survey of transit agencies across the nation.

During this Transit Talks, researchers from UC ITS will discuss their findings including trends and differences in types of policies and strategies employed by transit agencies. Transit agencies will also provide examples of services rendered to the homeless, partnerships established to address issues, and offer lessons learned. Time will be provided for questions.
