Pursuing a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable association
The California Transit Association is committed to a vision for public transportation that advances inclusion, diversity and equity within our industry and that furthers social and racial justice in our broader society.
This commitment was made action by the Association’s Executive Committee through the creation of a new Task Force on an Inclusive, Diverse, and Equitable Association (IDEA Task Force). We are pleased to share with you the Association's actions report, written by the IDEA Task Force, intended to baseline and advance our work on inclusion, diversity, and equity across all facets of the Association: Actions for a More Inclusive, Diverse, and Equitable Association.
Actions for a More Inclusive, Diverse, and Equitable Association
Actions we'll take to deliver on our commitment
The report is the culmination of a multi-month effort by the 17-member IDEA Task Force, which was chaired by Beverly Greene, Executive Director of External Affairs, Marketing & Communications at the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit), and vice chaired by Alva Carrasco, Director of Rail and Transit at Burns Engineering. The concrete actions outlined in this report build on the Association’s Strategic Plan and are intended to influence our annual work program and educational content plan. Organized by strategic goals relative to Advocacy, Member Services & Organizational Management and Development, each objective includes step-by-step tactics and accountability metrics to measure our success. To ensure progress on the implementation efforts, the IDEA Task Force will continue as a new oversight body.
Among the actions recommended in the report include:
ADVOCACY: Conduct an equity analysis as part of the review of legislative bill proposals considered for inclusion in State and Federal Legislative Programs and for legislation introduced in the State Legislature and Congress.
MEMBER SERVICES: Prioritize racial and social justice, transportation equity, and the furtherance of workforce equity in the Association’s Educational Content Delivery Plan, including events of all sizes, publications, and annual programming.
ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT: Amend the Association’s Strategic Plan and ensure Association members’ staff from diverse backgrounds participate on all standing committees.
